When the patient is recommended for an *in vitro fertilization* procedure, the patient takes a series of medications to achieve an adequate number of eggs. Once the eggs are retrieved, they are fertilized with the couple’s semen. Some patients do not produce mature eggs, so until a few years ago they were discarded because they were considered useless for the pregnancy process.

At UR Managua we have developed a technique that helps us cultivate these “immature” eggs in our laboratory so they can be used to achieve pregnancy.
