Surveillance of the mother and fetus has become a necessity in the Clinics dedicated to Human Reproduction around the world, firstly because our patients are generally patients with chronic diseases such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Antiphospholipid Syndrome, Systemic Lupus erythematosus, to name a few. , and like a healthy patient they have the right to have a baby and enjoy the gift of motherhood.

Age also plays a role in increasing the risk not only of the appearance of new diseases, but also in the probability of decompensation of pre-existing diseases, so it is extremely important to detect and control the possible complications that may occur. , since the end goal is to have a healthy child at home.

In our MFM Department you will find a highly specialized medical team in surveillance of the mother and the baby so that the pregnancy is safe from day 1 of the gestation, we achieve this through adequate monitoring of the pregnancy, state-of-the-art equipment and state-of-the-art genetic studies. This department not only cares for patients who have undergone Assisted Reproduction Treatments (ART), but also any woman who due to her risk factors should be evaluated by a specialist in Perinatology.

The MFM department is dedicated exclusively to:

  • Control of Fetal well-being through studies of placental function, amniotic fluid, control of growth and development of the baby, as well as a Doppler study of the middle and umbilical cerebral arteries to assess fetal hemodynamics.
  • Detection of risk of fetal malformations carried out with non-invasive genetic studies and ultrasound risk markers during the first and second trimesters to detect Down syndrome and other chromosomal alterations, in addition to other diagnostic tools such as 3D / 4D ultrasound and neurosonography.
  • Detection and control of the risk of preterm birth using the measurement of the length of the cervix and therapeutic recommendations, both medical and surgical (cervical cerclage).
  • Early detection of preeclampsia and gestational diabetes.
  • Early detection of fetal heart malformations through fetal echocardiography to assess the structure and function of the baby’s heart.
  • Control of maternal diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus and gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, hypo / hyperthyroidism and any other disease associated or not with pregnancy with prenatal controls for High Obstetric Risk.
