Maternal – Fetal Wellbeing Program

The Maternal – Fetal UR Unit, which begins its operation in 2022, is a unit specialized in the monitoring of patients to monitor the well-being of both the mother and the child, has a series of subspecialists who will provide control and monitoring of chronic pre-existing diseases in women, will monitor the appearance of diseases associated with pregnancy such as pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, threat of premature birth, etc.

In the case of fetal surveillance, this program is responsible for monitoring the good development of the fetus through serial evaluations that include determination of the risk of chromosomal alterations in the baby such as Down syndrome, Patau syndrome, Edward syndrome, in addition to alterations related to sex chromosomes such as Turner Syndrome and Klinefelter Syndrome. If an alteration is suspected, morphological ultrasound and non-invasive genetic tests such as fetal DNA in maternal blood will be performed to avoid the risk involved in performing an amniocentesis to assess the baby’s chromosomes.
